The 7600/132 released in the summer of 1996 was a slight speed bump from the previous 120Mhz model which was itself the successor model to the popular PowerMac 7500. Aimed primarily at the business market, the 7600 was one of the last PowerMacs to use the 604 processor (which would soon become completely supplanted by the more powerful 604e.) The 132Mhz model was also one of the first Macs to sport the faster 8X CD-ROM drive, which was included in all PowerMacs released at the same time.

The machine also included a 256K L2 cache - expandable to 1MB, 16MB of RAM - expandable to 512MB using the provided 8 DIMM slots and 2MB of VRAM - expandable to 4MB for more colors at higher resolution. A 1.2GBSCSI drive and on-board AAUI & 10baseT Ethernet and 3 PCI slots, rounded out the machine. A PC compatibility card was an available option for the 7600/132.
