Performance of Iomega Drives Compared To Syquest Products

| Hardware Index |

The graphs below represents a performance comparison of various Iomega and Syquest drives. Drives were tested connected to a Performa 6300 and the 6300's standard drive is used as the benchmark base. It appears that the SyQuest drive on most disk activity runs comparable to that of the Centris 660AV and that a Zip is about half that speed. Testing was done using MacBench 3.0 on a Performa 6300. MacBench profiles popular software programs such as Adobe Photoshop, Word 6.0 and QuarkXpress among a variety of others and applies these profiles to the various subsystems being tested. See this description of what MacBench tests and how. Longer bars equals faster performance.

Below you will find real world timed test comparing the Zip to the EZ SyQuest when copying 1,744 files (90MB in all) from a Performa 6300 drive. Speed Douber was used for this test. Times are in seconds. The Zip is 40% slower than the EZ 135 in this test which simulates backup functioning. Shorter bars in this case are better.
