What kind of performance gain are you getting for the money you'll be shelling out for the various cards?......Scores marked in Red indicate this information was provided by Newer. Scores Marked in Blue indicate that this information was independently verified by MacSpeedZone. Also keep in mind that MacBench does not stress the G4's accelerated functions. For Applications that are accelerated for the G4 you can see up to a 1.5 - 5 times speed improvement over a similarly clocked G3 processor.

** The G4 cards will not work in all machines. See above for compatibility.

And how much do you pay per performance point (price divided by performance score) ....

Newer Press Release

WICHITA, KS, USA - November 1, 2000 - Newer Technology, the technology
leader in Apple [NASDAQ: AAPL] Macintosh CPU upgrades, announces the
reduction in price of the world's most highly rated G3 and G4 CPU upgrade
cards. Improved pricing covers two cards for the 9600-7300 series of
computers. The 400MHz G4 and 500MHz G3 cards, utilizing Newer's award
winning MAXpowr hardware ROM compatibility circuitry, have undergone
significant price reductions. These are the only cards on the market that
are truly 100% compatible with Apple's 9600-7300 series of Power Macintosh
computers and similar clone computers.
"Once again we find ourselves in the position to leverage our continual
improvements in manufacturing and pricing, made possible through our
partnership with Tri-M Technologies. We're able to pass along cost savings
to our customers," stated John Nelson, Newer's iPresident. "We're very
excited by the prospect that our technically superior CPU upgrade cards
have genuinely become affordable to a much larger group of customers."
Newer has lowered its prices on the 500 MHz MAXpowr G3 by $130 to its new
price of $399, and the 400 MHz MAXpowr G4 by $100 to its new price of $399.
These prices will remain intact until the next Newer price drop on these
specific products is announced. By offering these substantial price
reductions, Newer establishes a price/performance leadership position for
G3 and G4 CPU upgrades.
Newer's full line of MAXpowr G3 and G4 PCI cards are compatible with the
following models of Macintosh and Clone computers:
- Apple Power Macintosh 9600, 9515, 9500, 8600, 8515, 8500, 7600, 7500, and
7300
- Apple Workgroup Server 9650, 8550 and 7350
- Power Computing PowerTower Pro, PowerTower*, PowerCenter Pro*,
PowerCenter*, PowerCurve* and PowerWave
- DayStar Genesis 932, 900, 800, 720, 600, 528, 400 and 360
- UMAX S900 and J700
- Mactell XB-Pro
* These are compatible with the MAXpowr G3 PCI cards only.
Newer also takes a bold step and significantly reduces the price of the
popular BookEndz docking station for the 1999 PowerBook G3 (aka Lombard
series or Bronze). Newer has decreased the price by $100 to its new price
of $99 while supplies last. BookEndz allows for lightning fast connections
and disconnections with all your PowerBook peripherals. Many mobile users
place a BookEndz docking station on their desks both at work and home.

MAXpowr Differences
MAXpowr G4 upgrades use Newer's exclusive SmartSet technology which allows
the processor upgrade to set its bus speed automatically - there are no
switches to tinker with. MAXpowr processor upgrades are set to run at the
optimum bus speed for fastest memory access -- without adding wait states
that slow system performance, or push the memory beyond Apple's
specifications. Rather than artificially inflating the bus speed (important
only for older motherboard Level 2 cache access), MAXpowr processor
upgrades set the system bus at speeds that produce the least number of wait
states between the CPU and system memory. Patent-pending Compatibility
Circuitry on the MAXpowr upgrade provides the correct management of
speculative access so that users data is not at risk -- without demanding
user input. MAXpowr G4 upgrades also correctly manage context switching --
where instructions processed by the AltiVec unit inside the G4 CPU are
executed successfully despite interrupts. If interrupted the instruction
results are not saved correctly therefore risking data corruption. There
are a number of white papers on Newer Technology's website which discuss
these topics in great detail.
