What kind of performance gain are you getting for the money you'll be shelling out for the various cards?......

Scores marked in Red indicate this information was provided by Newer. Scores Marked in Blue indicate that this information was independently verified by MacSpeedZone. Also keep in mind that MacBench does not stress the G4's accelerated functions. For Applications that are accelerated for the G4 you can see up to a 1.5 - 5 times speed improvement over a similarly clocked G3 processor.

** The G4 cards will not work in all machines. See above for compatibility.

Newer Press Release

Newer Introduces 500MHz G4s & Reintroduces several G3 Upgrades
Fastest new Mac Upgrade and fast Upgrades for older Macs are now available
WICHITA, KS, USA - July 5, 2000 - Newer Technology, the largest producer of
Apple [NASDAQ: AAPL] Macintosh upgrades, announces the introduction of the
world's fastest 500MHz G4 CPU upgrades. After re-assessing market demand,
Newer announces the re-introduction of several popular MAXpowr G3 upgrades
for older Power Macintosh and Performa computers.
Newer has brought out their new 500MHz MAXpowr G4-ZIF upgrade for all beige
and blue & white Power Macintosh computers. This card comes with 1MB of L2
backside cache operating at 250MHz. Recent magazine reviews and online
reviews have repeatedly shown Newer's MAXpowr G4-ZIF modules to be faster
than similar speed cards from all other vendors. This is attributed to a
solid hardware design and superior software drivers. Newer's unique blend
of state-of-the-art hardware and software engineering means the customer
receives maximum reliability and unparalleled performance. Ziff Davis'
MacBench 5 delivers a CPU score on this card that is in the high 1600s.
Some people still use the highly outdated MacBench 4 due to the
artificially high CPU numbers it generates.
A growing demand for high-performance upgrades for older Macs has caused
Newer to once again manufacture the MAXpowr G3-PDS 6100. It now comes with
a blazing-fast 300-330MHz CPU and 1MB of backside cache. These upgrades
work in all variations of the Power Macintosh and Performa 61xx series of
computers. Also re-appearing on the scene is Newer's MAXpowr G3-L2. It has
been brought back with a 400MHz G3 CPU and 1MB of backside cache. The L2
card works in a wide variety of computers such as the 5400s, 5500s, 6400s,
and 6500s. The final card, which has been re-introduced, is the MAXpowr
G3-PDS 7100/8100. It is built with a 266-300MHz G3 CPU and 1MB of backside
cache. These cards work in all variations of the 7100 and 81xx series of
computers. Thousands of Users, some waiting for up to 8 months, are rushing
out to buy these newly re-introduced upgrades.
PRICING:
The new 500/1M/250MHz MAXpowr G4-ZIF, for both beige and blue & whites,
sells for $799. This makes it the most attractively priced 500MHz G4 card
available. The new 300-330/1M/150-165MHz MAXpowr G3-PDS 6100, for all 61xx
series, sells for $349. The new 400/1M/200MHz MAXpowr G3-L2, for most
Performas and many PowerMacs, sells for $399. The new 266-300/1M/177-200MHz
MAXpowr G3-PDS 71/8100, for all 7100s and 81xx series includes the video
cable that allows customers to use their existing AV or HPV video card,
sells for $449.

MAXpowr Differences
MAXpowr G4 upgrades use Newer's exclusive SmartSet technology which allows
the processor upgrade to set its bus speed automatically - there are no
switches to tinker with. MAXpowr processor upgrades are set to run at the
optimum bus speed for fastest memory access - without adding wait states
that slow system performance, or push the memory out beyond Apple's
specifications. Rather than artificially inflating the bus speed (important
only for older motherboard Level 2 cache access), MAXpowr processor
upgrades set the system bus at speeds that produce the least number of wait
states between the CPU and system memory. Patent-pending Compatibility
Circuitry on the MAXpowr upgrade provides the correct management of
speculative access so that users data is not at risk - and without
demanding user input. MAXpowr G4 upgrades also correctly manage context
switching - where instructions processed by the AltiVec unit inside the G4
CPU are executed successfully despite interrupts. If interrupted, the
instruction results are not saved correctly, data is at risk of corruption.
