The Performance Edge: So Newer Has Dropped The Prices Of Their Upgrade Cards Again - What's New? Why The Price/Performance Equation Of Course!
NewerTech has dropped the prices up to $100 on many of their processor upgrade cards. In addition they have added two G4 cards to their line-up (due in December) So we run the numbers again for you. For applications that have been optimized for the G4 processor you can see a performance boost of 3 to 5 times over that of the G3 at the same clock speed. However for most of today's applications similarly clocked G4 and G3 processors will perform pretty much the same. The G4 is somewhat faster at floating point calculations than the G3 - giving a boost to some scientific and graphics intensive programs. The coming year should bring more programs that take advantage of the G4's extra processing power.
Newer also announced that they will be dropping the line of MAXpowr G3-CC "Carrier Card" product due to lack of demand.
